Zwei 14-Jährige stürmen schwer bewaffnet die Turnhalle einer amerikanischen Highschool, in der ein Abschlussball stattfindet. Die Ausgänge wurden mit Rohrbomben vermint. Schüler und Lehrer werden gefesselt, gedemütigt und gequält. Eine Lehrerin wird schwer verletzt und einem Footballspieler werden die Knie zerschossen, bevor die Selbstbefreiung gelingt. Ein Geiselnehmer tötet sich selbst, der zweite wird ins Koma geprügelt. Anhand von Befragungen, Abschiedsbriefen und Polizeidokumenten recherchiert der Autor den fiktiven Fall. Die Biografie der Täter enthüllt sich als Kette tagtäglicher Demütigungen. Wegen Leibesfülle oder fehlender Markensachen wurden sie insbesondere vom Footballteam drangsaliert. Rhue rekonstruiert unkommentiert, aber überzeugend, die von der Schulleitung geduldeten Ungerechtigkeiten und damit mögliche Ursachen für Ohnmacht und Hass. Fast lapidar wird ein Gewalt-Prozess aufgezeigt, der für Schüler größten Wiedererkennungswert besitzen dürfte. Hochbrisant, diskussionsgeeignet und unbedingt empfohlen.
