Ein 15-jähriger jüdischer Junge aus Gardelegen in der Nähe von Berlin flüchtet 1938 über England, Australien, Indien und Südafrika nach Amerika. Als US-amerikanischer Bürger und Soldat kehrt er nach Deutschland zurück, ist an der Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Dachau beteiligt und wird schließlich Chefdolmetscher der amerikanischen Anklage bei den Nürnberger Prozessen. Niemand hat wohl nach ihrer Verhaftung so viel mit den höchsten Nazi-Schergen gesprochen wie er, der Göring, Höß und viele andere verhörte.
