Der Wandel der Gender-Vorstellungen, der durch den politischen Feminismus der 1970er-Jahre angestoßen wurde, ist in der Literatur wie in den Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften ein Thema von zunehmender Wichtigkeit. Dies gilt nicht nur für Europa, sondern auch für Afrika, dessen Länder von jenem Gender-Diskurs erreicht wurden. Gegenstand dieser Studie ist ein Vergleich literarischer Texte hinsichtlich der Darstellung von Geschlechterrollen und Frauenbildern. Der Verfasser bedient sich einer genderorientierten Untersuchung und behandelt Texte von vier Feministinnen, u.a. Calixthe Beyala und Elfriede Jelinek sowie von vier männlichen Autoren, von denen drei zur Genderfrage differenzierte Positionen bezogen haben: Heinrich Böll, Mongo Béti und Sadamba Tcha-Koura. Die Analyse zeigt, dass es hinsichtlich des Gender-Diskurses keinen Unterschied zwischen männlichen und weiblichen, afrikanischen und europäischen Autoren gibt. Die festzustellenden Differenzen sind auf soziale Begebenheiten zurückzuführen, in denen analoge patriarchale Geschlechterbilder zu unterschiedlichen Folgen für die Individuen führen.
