Die Bürger von Pritzelwitz sind sehr tierlieb, vor allem die Kinder. Deshalb baut der Bürgermeister einen wunderschönen Tierpark. Es dauert nicht lange, schon ziehen die ersten Tiere in den Zoo ein: lustige Affen, Giraffen mit besonders langen Hälsen, zwei Zwergmäuse, ein brandroter Fuchs. Es folgen ihnen noch viele, doch ein Tier fehlt noch: ein Löwe. Die Kinder beginnen nachzudenken, wie sie einen König der Wüste bekommen können. Die Geschichte erzählt, dass man manchmal auf kleine Wünsche verzichten muss, wenn man sich große erfüllen will.
