Content: The most commonly used measurement technique for electrophysiology is the patch clamp technique. While this measurement technique allows the precise investigation of the communication taking place through ion channels, it has some undesirable drawbacks such as the local destruction of the plasma membrane, a low success rate and an elaborate experimental procedure. To avoid these drawbacks, in this work a new non-invasive microfluidic platform for electrophysiological research (NIMEP) was developed with regard to the activity of ion channels. This novel approach is based on the non-invasive measurement of the total current through the cell membrane and provides a possibility for an automated investigation of the individual cells. In addition, the investigated cell can be used for other applications, since the cell remains in an intact state before and after the test.

Series Statement: Schriftenreihe des Instituts für Technische Mechanik, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie
Content: The objective of this work is to develop a method which solves the nonlinear elastohydrodynamic contact problem in a fast and precise way using model order reduction techniques. The reduction procedure is based on a projection onto a low-dimensional subspace using different hyper-reduction procedures. The method provides fast and highly accurate reduced order models for stationary and transient, Newtonian and Non-Newtonian EHD line and point contact problems.

Content: This work presents the application of organic semiconductor distributed feedback laser as free-space excitation source in Raman spectroscopy. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering effect is exploited to improve the detection sensitivity. The SERS conditionis achiedved by using substrates consisting of gold-coated polymeric nanopillar arrays. The organic-laser-excited SERS measurements are applied to verify the concentration variation of biomolecule adenosine in aqueous solutions.
