El presente estudio trata de analizar, en varios ejemplos léxicos y sintáctico-semánticos, tomados del diccionario colonial del maya yucateco de Motul de Fray Antonio de Ciudad Real (después de 1577), la confrontación intercultural entre los mundos hispano y maya, con motivo del proyecto de una nueva edición de esta fuente lingüística, etnosemántica y etnohistórica tan importante de Yucatán en la Colonia temprana. En áreas donde la vida tradicional maya fue sometida por los evangelizadores a la nueva evolución ética hispano-cristiana resaltan algunas obsesiones de los últimos, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a las relaciones entre mujeres y hombres y a los conflictos culturales subyacentes, que se manifiestan en las entradas del diccionario.

The subject of the study is to draw an intercultural comparison between the cognitive realities of Spaniards and Maya. This is carried out with various lexical, syntactic and semantic examples taken from Fray Antonio de Ciudad Real's Diccionario de Motul (published after 1577), a dictionary of colonial Yucatec Maya. The study was realized within the scope of the project to publish a new edition of this very important linguistic, ethnosemantic, and ethnohistorical source of colonial Yucatan. In fields where the traditional Maya life had been subjugated to the new Hispanic Christian ethical values by the missionaries one can find among the entries of the dictionary some of their obsessions, especially those referring to the relations between women and men, as well as the underlying cultural conflicts.
