Inhalt:
The articles in this volume examine female patronage during the Middle Ages and early Renaissance in its artistic, literary and bibliophilic manifestations. Diverse interdisciplinary approaches shed light on women's roles in the acquisition, commission and use of art and literature in secular or religious contexts, including written works and images. To what extent are texts, illuminations and paintings transformed to adapt to a female public? Are there literary works whose translations or adaptations respond to a specific request or desire to transmit a female message? Are there artistic cycles or iconographic models that can be described as female-centered or inspired especially by female interests or concerns ? If so, how does this process of "feminization" manifest itself concretely? What defines this process? Contributors propose answers to these very questions, providing new lines of investigation and original insights into issues surrounding female patronage in Medieval and Renaissance Europe
