Er stellt dar, wie tragfähig die damit in Verbindung gebrachten Konzepte für eine allgemeine Theorie der Landschaft der modernen Architektur wären und entwirft in drei Kapiteln – Raum und Geschichte, Landschaft und Bedeutung, Werk und Natur – eine Theorie des modernen Wohnhauses als landschaftlichen „Resonanzraum". Dieses soll sich in den Landschaftsraum einfügen und den Bewohnern zugleich die Erfahrung von Freiheit gewähren.
