Die neugegründete Reihe wird mit einem Band eröffnet, der die deutsche Fassung des Rakówer Katechismus des Gothaer Theologen Valentin Schmalz (1572–1622) erstmals wieder zugänglich macht. Bei diesem Text handelt es sich um die zentrale Bekenntnisschrift des Sozinianismus, einer theologisch anspruchsvollen und wirkmächtigen Strömung der Radikalreformation im 17. Jahrhundert. Zugleich wird die erste vollständige Edition des sogenannten Soner-Katechismus vorgelegt. Benannt ist diese Schrift nach ihrem mutmaßlichen Verfasser Ernst Soner (1573–1612), der an der Nürnberger Akademie zu Altdorf als Medizin- und Philosophieprofessor tätig war. Die beiden Unterweisungsschriften bieten Aufschluß über die Geschichte der religiösen Pluralisierung in der Frühen Neuzeit; für die Untersuchung der Voraussetzungen und Kommunikationsnetze des religiösen Nonkonformismus sind die Quellen von grundlegender Bedeutung.
