Bereits im vergangenen Jahr hat der Verlag mit dem Roman "Die Werkstatt der Wunder" (ID-A 39/12) die Wiederentdeckung des weltbekannten und äußerst produktiven Autors Amado (1912-2001) begonnen und pünktlich zur Buchmesse 2013, die Brasilien als Partnerland hervorgehoben hat, mit "Zwei Geschichten von der See" fortgesetzt; Geschichten, deren Helden etwas gemeinsam haben: den Drang, aus der bürgerlichen Enge und Fantasielosigkeit auszubrechen und sich ebenso frei wie ungezügelt zu erfinden - und das mit reichlich Seemannsgarn. Da ist Quinca Wasserschrei, der Held der 70 Seiten umfassenden Erzählung, der seine Beamtenwelt zugunsten eines bunten Halbweltlebens aufgibt, nach seinem Tod die peinlich berührte Familie foppt und seine Bestattung in den Wogen des Meeres durchzusetzen vermag. Und dann - in dem folgenden Schelmenroman (Deutsche Erstveröffentlichung 1964) - Vasco Moscoso, der sich als Kapitän ausgibt und seine Fans mit prallen Geschichten seiner See- und Liebesabenteuer verwöhnt, bis die Überprüfung seiner Glaubwürdigkeit ansteht. - Eine begrüßenswerte Wiederentdeckung, unwiderstehlich witzig.
