Main description: Die vorliegende Studie ist die erste monographische Untersuchung der Rettungen Lessings. Sie stellt diese von der Forschung vernachlässigten, der gelehrten literarischen Polemik zuzuordnenden Texte in den Mittelpunkt und versucht ihnen mittels gattungs- und ideengeschichtlicher Kontextualisierung gerecht zu werden. Der den Rettungen zugrundeliegende Denkstil wird für Lessing prägend und bietet dadurch einen neuen Zugang zu seinem Gesamtwerk.

It focuses on these largely neglected works, generally relegated to the realm of academic literary polemics, and attempts to do justice to their importance by situating them in intellectual history and genre studies. The intellectual modes underlying the Rettungen is highly characteristic of Lessing, and offer a new window into his oeuvre.
