Mit dem dritten Band der Erinnerungen des Generals der Infanterie Edmund Glaise-Horstenau wird die Herausgabe der Memoiren, tagebuchartigen Aufzeichnungen und politischen Bekenntnis abgeschlossen. Der Band beginnt mit Berichten des Generals über seine Mission nach Agram (Zagreb) im April 1941 im Zuge des deutschen Überfalls auf Jugoslawien. Als Deutscher Bevollmächtigter General in Kroatien hatte Glaise-Horstenau gegenüber der Regierung des nunmehrigen Unabhängigen Staates Kroatien 1941 bis 1944 die deutschen militärischen Interessen zu wahren und beim Aufbau einer kroatischen Landwehr zu beraten. Hierbei werden seine Gespräche mit Verantwortlichen der militärischen wie der politischen Führung des Dritten Reiches geschildert. Ebenso seine Kontakte und Konflikte mit dem kroatischen Diktator Ante Pavelic und dessen Helfershelfer geschildert. Sein Kritik am Faschismus, an der deutschen Kriegsführung und an dem deutschen Verbündeten Italien wird deutlich werden
