Für Joy und Günther Weisenborn war sie eine Art Lebens-Mittel, das ihnen Zuversicht und Mut gab. Ihre Tagebücher und Briefe sind berührende Dokumente, die zeigen, wie zwei Gegner des Dritten Reiches die Endphase des Zweiten Weltkrieges überlebten. Am 26. September 1942 wurden die Weisenborns verhaftet. Sie gehörten zum Freundeskreis um Harro Schulze-Boysen, der auf vielfältige Weise Widerstand leistete gegen den Nationalsozialismus. Die Gestapo rechnete ihn einer angeblich von Moskau gesteuerten Widerstandsgruppe zu, die sie auf den Namen „Rote Kapelle“ taufte. In der Haftzeit schrieben sich der prominente Schriftsteller und seine Frau Briefe. So bewahrten sie sich ihr eigenes privates Reich, das sogar dem allmächtig scheinenden NS-Regime Grenzen setzte. Nach ihrer Entlassung im April 1943 führte Joy zudem ein Tagebuch, das hier erstmals veröffentlicht wird. Die sehr persönlichen Dokumente legen Zeugnis ab von einer großen Liebe und einer Gegenwelt, die sich – trotz Isolation und Todesangst – nicht unterkriegen ließ.
