Neugier und Staunen: Das sind nicht nur Antriebe ursprünglichen Nachdenkens (vgl. H.-L. Freese: "Kinder sind Philosophen", BA 6/89), sondern des Lernens überhaupt. R. Lewis, Grundschullehrer und Direktor des "Touchstone Center" in New York, appelliert vor allem an Lehrer, in Unterricht und Erziehung an diese kindlichen Fähigkeiten anzuknüpfen. Statt der Fixierung auf rigide Lernzielvorgaben und der einseitigen Förderung des Intellekts gelte es, Fantasie und Imagination zu ihrem Recht kommen zu lassen: Lernen vollziehe sich in der Einheit von Sinneswahrnehmung, Bewusstsein und Gefühlen. Die hier gesammelten (zuvor meist andernorts veröffentlichten) Essays erinnern an die "Poesie der Kindheit" und zeigen an Beispielen aus der pädagogischen Praxis (mit Gedichten und Texten von Grundschulkindern), wie lebendig und kreativ Lernen sein kann.
