Neben dem klassischen Bestimmungsbuch von W. Engelhardt: "Was lebt in Tümpel, Bach und Weiher?" (hier zuletzt ID-B 52/15) sowie dem 900 Pflanzen- und Tierarten vorstellenden, etwas unübersichtlichen "... große(n) Kosmos-Naturführer Teich, Fluss, See" (ID-G 27/10) gibt es noch die Flora und Fauna mit Fotos vorstellenden, ebenfalls bei Kosmos erschienenen Titel: "Was lebt in Bach und Teich?" (BA 6/09) und "Was lebt in heimischen Seen?" (ID-A 9/11). Das vorliegende, auf Wasserpflanzen beschränkte Bestimmungsbuch zielt vornehmlich auf Taucher und Schnorchler, denen auch die heimische Unterwasserwelt durchaus Interessantes zu bieten hat, aber auch auf Naturschützer, denen die Unterwasserbotanik Ausweis für die Gewässerqualität ist. Behandelt werden nur Pflanzen, die "völlig oder überwiegend unter Wasser" zu finden sind, wodurch sich das Buch auch vom "Taschenatlas Wasserpflanzen" (Ulmer; BA 8/06) unterscheidet, der ebenfalls Sumpf- und Moorpflanzen berücksichtigt. Kurze Einführung, nach Blattformen gegliederter Hauptteil mit Farbfotos, Detailzeichnungen, Beschreibungen, Gefährdungsstatus.
