Es ist die phantastische Geschichte von König Macius/Hänschen, der nach dem frühen Tode seines Vaters als Kind die Regierungsgeschäfte übernimmt und ungeahnte Erfahrungen macht. Waren die beiden Ausgaben des Vandenhoeck&Ruprecht Verlags: "König Hänschen I." (BA 278/373) und "König Hänschen auf der einsamen Insel" (beide noch im Handel) für Kinder gedacht, so kommt diese Taschenbuchausgabe aufgrund ihrer Aufmachung (enger Druck, ohne Illustrationen) für Erwachsene in Betracht. Die preisgünstige Ausgabe enthält den vollständigen Text beider Teile in neuer Übersetzung, ergänzt durch ein 10seitiges, über den Autor informierendes Nachwort.
