Kirsch, bekannt unter seinem Pseudonym Hetmann (zuletzt BA 1/01), betont den engen Zusammenhang von Leben und Denken bei Buber und stellt ihn als vielseitigen Grenzgänger zwischen Welten und Religionen vor, wobei er Buber und andere Autoren, die über den jüdischen Religionsphilosophen geschrieben haben, häufig zitiert. Der verständlich geschriebene Band ist, wie Kirsch ausdrücklich hervorhebt, für Menschen gedacht, die sich bisher noch nicht mit dem Gelehrten befasst haben. Der allem Anschein nach von Buber faszinierte Verfasser hat dessen Schriften gründlich studiert und bemüht sich, ihn in einem günstigen Licht erscheinen zu lassen.
