Deutschlands einflußreichste Zeitung lügt, fälscht und hetzt -- das ist das Ergebnis der Recherchen des bekannten Enthüllungsjournalisten Günter Wallraff, der sich unter dem Namen Hans Esser 1977 für vier Monate bei Bild in Hannover einschlich. Sein Äußeres paßte er den Gepflogenheiten an: Höhensonnengebräunt, in Anzug und Krawatte, mit Siegelring und Herrenparfüm sprach "Esser" beim Redaktionsleiter Schwindmann (Name geändert) vor - und wurde genommen. Ein ehemaliger Werbetexter, leistungsorientiert und kapitalbewußt - daraus könnte man ein funktionierendes Gewinde machen, ein unscheinbares Schräubchen in der gigantischen Meinungsmache-Maschinerie des Axel Springer Verlags. So glaubte man zumindest. Das Prinzip der Bild-Zeitung bzw. der Boulevard-Zeitung schlechthin ist denkbar einfach und wird von Wallraff gekonnt aufgezeigt: Innerhalb einer strengen Hierarchie müssen schlecht bezahlte Redakteure vor Superlativen strotzende Geschichten abliefern, die nur dann politisch sein dürfen, wenn diejenigen, die Bild unterstützen, es wollen. Soziale Mißstände passen nicht ins Bild und werden spätestens auf dem Schreibtisch des Redaktionsleiters wegredigiert, was nicht sensationell genug ist wird verfälscht oder "aktualisiert" - auch Sachverhalte, die sich vor Jahren ereigneten, sind in Bild immer brandaktuell.
