Sofort wird klar, dass die soziopathische junge Frau alles raffiniert eingefädelt hat, um ihren Mann ins Gefängnis und in die Todeszelle zu bringen. Doch dann misslingt ihr alles und sie wird gezwungen, nach Hause zu gehen - es wird eine Rückkehr, von beiden gleichzeitig erwünscht und gefürchtet, es gibt ein Ende, das alles andere als glücklich ist. Die amerikanische Autorin, zuvor schon durch düstere Thriller bekannt geworden, bleibt ihrem zuletzt von "Finstere Orte" (BA 4/10) gewohntem Prinzip der doppelten Berichterstattung treu, sie entwickelt ein raffiniertes Katz-und-Maus-Spiel zweier psychisch gestörter Charaktere, die sich hassen und - aus diversen Gründen - doch nicht voneinander lassen können. Zuerst Psychogramm einer Ehehölle, dann Thriller, doch packend erzählt und unter die Haut gehend. Breit empfohlen.
