Am 1. Februar 1631 trug der Dichter Paul Fleming (1609–1640), seinerzeit Student, im Auditorium der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Leipzig sein »Jesu Christo Salvatori Natalitium« vor. Dieses Jugendwerk Flemings, zugleich sein längstes Gedicht, hat in der Forschung bisher keinerlei besondere Beachtung erfahren. In diesem Band wird es ediert, übersetzt und kommentiert. Hinzu tritt die Edition, Übersetzung und kurze Kommentierung des in den »Natalitium«-Drucken ebenfalls enthaltenen »Christo hodiè-nascenti hyporchema«, das von den fünf Exemplaren dieser manieristischen Kleingattung in Flemings lateinischem Œuvre das längste ist.
