Das letzte Kapitel unserer Untersuchung ging von sechs Fragen aus: (1) Worin besteht für Schiller das Problem der Autonomie der Kunst? (2) Vor welchem Hintergrund stellt sich dieses Problem? (3) In welchem theoretischen Rahmen versucht es Schiller zu lösen? (4) Wie läßt sich das Problem der Kunstautonomie systemtheoretisch verstehen? (5) In welcher Weise müssen Schillers ästhetische Grundbegriffe reformuliert werden, wenn man das systemtheoretische Verständnis dieses Problems zugrunde legt? (6) Wie verhalten sich die Theorie der ästhetischen Erziehung und die Theorie der Kunstautonomie zueinander? (1) Das Problem der Kunstautonomie entsteht dadurch, daß die Kunst einerseits als Mittel der Erziehung, andererseits als ein selbständiger Zweck behandelt wird. Unterwirft man die Kunst äußeren Zwecken, so hebt man ihre Eigengesetzlichkeit auf oder schränkt sie wenigstens ein. Befreit man sie von äußeren Zwecken und setzt sie mit dem zweckfreien Schönen gleich, dann macht man sie zum folgenlosen und bedeutungslosen Genuß. Das Problem der Kunstautonomie besteht demnach in der Frage: Wie kann die Kunst ein eigener Zweck sein, ohne den Zusammenhang mit den höchsten Zwecken der Kultur zu verlieren oder ihnen zu schaden? Da für Schiller moralische Werte die höchsten Zwecke der Kultur verkörpern, liegt folglich das Problem der Kunstautonomie im Zusammenhang zwischen Kunst und Moral und auf theoretischer Ebene im Zusammenhang zwischen Ästhetik und Ethik. (2) Das Problem der Kunstautonomie stellt sich vor dem Hintergrund der Ästhetik der Aufklärung einerseits und Kants sowie Goethes Ästhetik andererseits
