Zum Aufbau des Bandes und zu den Beiträgen Herbert Willems und Martin Jurga Die Reihe der Gesellschaften der Gesellschaftswissenschaftler ist lang: (spät-) kapitalistische Gesellschaft, Industriegesellschaft, Konsumgesellschaft, Erlebnisgesellschaft, Multioptionsgesellschaft, Informationsgesellschaft, Kommunikationsgesellschaft, Mediengesellschaft, 2/3-Gesellschaft, Wissenschaftsgesellschaft, Risikogesellschaft, Bekenntnisgesellschaft , O. K. -Gesellschaft, Konkurrenzgesellschaft usw. usw. Macht es angesichts dieser (leicht zu verlängernden) Reihe (auch nur theatralen) Sinn, erneut eine "Gesellschaft" ins Leben zu rufen und damit - mindestens - zu behaupten, einen wesentlichen Zug, wenn nicht das Wesen der heutigen Gesellschaft zu erfassen? Wir meinen diese Frage mit Einschränkungen und Relativierungen, die auszuführen sein werden, bejahen zu können. Dabei wollen wir nicht leugnen (und können es nach unserem Band erst recht nicht tun), daß unser Titel eine Dramatisierungsfunktion erfüllt. Er ist sozusagen das funktionale Äquivalent eines Firmenlogos. Unsere vielleicht wichtigste "Sicherheit" ist die Tatsache, daß wir uns auf der Linie einer altehrwürdigen Tradition bewegen: der Theatermetaphorik und dem Bühnenmodell. Die Karriere des sozialwissenschaftlichen Bühnenmodells war und ist ambivalent (vgl. dazu den Beitrag von H. Willems in diesem Band). Es hatte, kulminierend in der Rollentheorie, Konjunktur, wurde erst kanonisiert (zum Bestandteil von Einführungsveranstaltungen in die Allgemeine Soziologie) und geriet dann irgendwie in Vergessenheit. Seit einigen Jahren hat sich das, vielleicht korrelativ zu einer tendenziellen "Theatralisierung" von Kultur und Gesellschaft, geändert.
