Im Zeichen von Political Correctness und Antidiskriminierungspolitik, von Geschlechterkonstruktionen und ihrer Dekonstruktion scheint das traditionelle Koordinatensystem der Geschlechterbeziehungen und die Verortung von 'Männlichkeit' und 'Weiblichkeit' ins Wanken geraten zu sein. In der gesellschaftlichen Wirklichkeit ist die soziale Ungleichheit aufgrund des Geschlechts jedoch nach wie vor signifikant; 'männlich' - 'weiblich' sind relativ feststehende Deutungsmuster und Platzanweiser im gesellschaftlichen Macht- und Statusgefüge.. - Die Genese und Resistenz eines verschwindend geringen Frauenanteils in beruflichen Führungspositionen ist dabei bislang nicht abschließend erforscht worden und legt es nahe, nicht nur nach den Figurationen gesellschaftlicher Macht, sondern auch nach der Bedeutung und Beschaffenheit des normativen Selbst- und Fremdbildes einer leistungs- und qualifikationsbezogenen, rationalen und als gesellschaftlichen 'männlich' geltenden Institution zu fragen. Die Praktiken der Konstruktion von Wirklichkeit, von Machtattribution und Vergeschlechtlichung machen einen bemerkenswerten Stellenwert für die Aufrechterhaltung der Marginalität und Selbstverortung von Frauen in Führungspositionen aus. Traditionelle Deutungsmuster beinhalten vor allem die These einer vermeintlich prinzipiellen, biologisch determinierten Unvereinbarkeit von Karriere- und Familienorientierung, um die Unterrepräsentanz von Frauen zu erklären und letztlich zu legitimieren.. - Dabei wird die Frage des beruflichen Aufstiegs von Frauen vor allem als 'Kinderfrage' wahrgenommen, so daß sowohl gesellschaftspolitische Dimensionen der Arbeitsgestaltung und Zeitstrukturierung als auch plurale Lebenswirklichkeiten von Frauen und Mannem ausgeblendet werden. Folgt man den gängigen dichotomen Implikationen des 'Karrierediskurses', dann obliegt es vor allem der individuellen Entscheidung der Frau, sich entweder für Kinder oder für eine berufliche Karriere zu entscheiden
