"Interkontinentalraketen" (engl. kurz ICBM) sind seit der Existenz der Atomwaffen bis heute ein wichtiger Garant für eine funktionierende atomare Abschreckung. Sie haben eine Reichweite von mehr als 8000 km, sind zu Lande stationiert und in wenigen Minuten startbereit. Der kenntnisreiche Autor beschreibt verständlich, umfassend und ausführlich die Entwicklung der ICBM's seit den Anfängen in den 50er-Jahren. Im Fokus stehen die amerikanischen und sowjet-russischen Raketen, andere Staaten verfügen z.Z. noch nicht über Raketen dieser Reichweite. Während die Typenzahl auf US-Seite übersichtlich ist, findet man enorm viele Neuentwicklungen in der UdSSR und Russland. Gut beschrieben die Verwobenheit der Atomwaffenträger mit den zivilen Raumfahrtprogrammen. Reichl vergisst nicht die Abrüstungsverträge SALT, START usw. Ein Nachteil: die Nationalität der Typen erfährt man erst im Text oder durch die Namensgebung. Die Quellen der erstaunlichen Detailfülle sind über eine angegebene Internetadresse zugänglich.
