In der deutschsprachigen Literatur bildete sich Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts ein romantisches Ungarnbild heraus, das mit der Trias Liebe, Wein und Freiheit beschrieben werden kann. Inwieweit diese Wahrnehmungs- und Repräsentationsschemata in den ungarisch-deutschen Dramenübersetzungen der Habsburgermonarchie unterstützt bzw. mitkonstruiert wurden, zeigt die Analyse der Peritexte dieser Übersetzungen. Auch das Korpus der publizierten ungarisch-deutschen Dramenübersetzungen des 19. Jahrhunderts wird erarbeitet, wobei die Übersetzer und Übersetzerinnen sowie ihr Umfeld ebenso erforscht werden. Diese Forschungsarbeit zeigt die Wurzeln einer noch immer aktuellen Wahrnehmung Ungarns auf und untersucht die Rolle der Übersetzungen in asymmetrischen Machtverhältnissen zwischen Kulturen.
