Wer ist der auferstandene Jesus? Und was hat er mit dem Irdischen zu tun? Diesen beiden Fragen widmet sich das Buch. Es behandelt diese Fragen aber nicht „an sich“, sondern in der Auseinandersetzung mit zwei Texten, die den Irdischen und den Auferstandenen vorkommen lassen, dem Matthäus- und dem Lukasevangelium. Für die Analyse dieser Texte wird eine literaturwissenschaftliche Verfahrensweise, die Figurenanalyse, erläutert und genutzt. Zunächst wird das Bild beider Evangelien vom Auferstandenen nachgezeichnet. Im Anschluss wird in beiden Evangelien zur Darstellung des Irdischen zurückgefragt, um Kontinuitäten und Akzentverschiebungen freizulegen. Dabei zeigt sich: Jesus – der Auferstandene und der Irdische, der matthäische und der lukanische – begegnet eben nicht als ein und dieselbe Figur.
