Autobiographie des österreichischen NS-Funktionärs und Diplomaten Reinhard Spitzy. Er engagierte sich bereits als junger Mann in der NSDAP und stieg im Dritten Reich schnell in der Hierarchie auf. Spitzy war viele Jahre im Auswärtigen Amt tätig, arbeitete u.a. als Sekretär für Joachim von Ribbentropp, wechselte dann in die Rüstungswirtschaft. Während des II. Weltkriegs war er an konspirativen Friedenskontakten der SS zum amerikanischen Geheimdienst, dem Office of Strategic Survices (OSS), beteiligt. Spitzey gelang es nach dem Krieg, sich seiner Verantwortung durch Nutzung vielfältiger diplomatischer und wirtschaftlicher Kontakte zu entziehen. Seit 1958 lebte er wieder offiziell in Österreich und inszenierte sich vor allen in den 1990er Jahren als TV-Zeitzeuge und Sicherheits-Experte. In dem gesamten Bericht wird der Opportunismus deutlich, der das Leben von Reinhard Spitzy geprägt hat.
