In dem Band "Komisch wie Franz Kafka" sind Leseempfehlungen, "Animiertexte", zusammengefaßt, die nur einen Zweck verfolgen: Sie wollen die vorgestellten Autoren von ihrer besten Seite zeigen. So ist ein Prinzip beibehalten worden, das sich bereits beim Vorgängerband "Schöne Helden" als dienlich erwiesen hatte: an sich zitierfreudigen Aufsätzen sind kurze Leseproben hinzugefügt worden. Präsentiert werden die Autoren Saki, Robert Gernhardt, Julian Barnes, Vladimir Nabokov, Eckhard Henscheid, Franz Kafka und Bernd Eilert. Die Klammer zwischen diesen nicht auf den ersten Blick verwandten Schriftstellern wird in einem Zitat Milan Kunderas gesehen: "Die Tragik verschafft uns die schöne Illusion menschlicher Größe und damit Tröstung. Das Komische ist grausamer: es enthüllt uns brutal die allgemeine Belanglosigkeit.
