Ernst Jünger sowie Carl Schmitt sind herausragende Figuren einer fragwürdigen Zeitgeschichte und in ihrer Rezeption häufig umstritten. Dass sie oftmals gemeinsam genannt werden, kommt nicht von ungefähr, denn man darf sie auch „Brüder im Geiste“ nennen. Bei näherer Betrachtung allerdings kommen Widersprüche auf, die eine Prüfung ihrer vermeintlichen Übereinstimmung im Denken erforderlich macht. Die vorliegende Arbeit versteht sich als ein solches Unternehmen, neben der Parallelität, auch eine Disparität hervorzuheben, die sich mittels einer kritischen Lektüre diverser Quellen – hier vorzugsweise Tagebücher und Briefwechsel – ermitteln lässt. Hierbei wird nur partiell die Primärliteratur mitveranschlagt, denn auch mit einer Auswahl an Einzelbesprechungen ließ sich ein Resultat erzielen. Angesichts grundverschiedener Dispositionen der Protagonisten lassen sich trotz Kohärenz im Denken lediglich Berührungspunkte bei der Bewertung relevanter Zeitphänomene konstatieren.
