Das Mediationsverfahren am Flughafen Wien-Schwechat (2001-2005) gilt als das größte Verfahren in der Geschichte der Mediation. Mehr als 50 Gruppierungen waren an dem Prozess, in dem die Lage einer dritten Startbahn und entsprechende Lärmschutzmaßnahmen diskutiert wurden, beteiligt. Die IFF-Abteilung für Weiterbildung und systemische Interventionsforschung der Universität Klagenfurt hat das fünfjährige Mediationsverfahren wissenschaftlich begleitet, rund 120 Interviews und circa 170 teilnehmende Beobachtungen durchgeführt, sämtliche Dokumente des Verfahrens analysiert und die Zwischenergebnisse jeweils in das laufende Verfahren rückgekoppelt. Der vorliegende Abschlussbericht beinhaltet sowohl die Dokumentation des Verfahrens als auch Hintergrundtheorien zur Mediation als Widerspruchsmanagement, ihrem Verhältnis zu Politik und Öffentlichkeit und ihrer Rechtswerdung.
