"Aus Protest gegen die Berliner Secession und ihren Vorsitzenden Max Liebermann" gründeten Berliner Expressionisten - darunter Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff und Erich Heckel - 1910 die "Neue Secession". Ihnen ist es wesentlich zu verdanken, dass der Expressionismus in Deutschland Fuß fassen konnte, ermöglichten sie doch abgelehnten Künstlern, ihre Werke auszustellen. Diese kunstgeschichtlich sehr spannenden 4 Jahre durchleuchtet die Begleitpublikation zur Ausstellung in Berlin (bis 03.07.2011, danach Schleswig) gründlich, verständlich und gut illustriert. Die Verbindung von Berlin nach Norddeutschland, hier besonders der Gegensatz zwischen dem großstädtischen kulturellen Leben und der Alternative naturnahes Landleben, wird in einem eigenen Kapitel thematisiert (vgl. dazu auch "Nolde in Berlin", BA 12/07, und "Erich Heckel an der Ostsee", ID-G 27/06).
