Sie umspannt den Zeitraum vom 13. bis in unser Jahrhundert, und vorgestellt werden darin so unterschiedliche Schicksale wie die der längst vergessenen minderjährigen Opfer von Hexenprozessen, der Lebensweg des Karl Philipp Moritz, die kindliche Lovestory zwischen Heinrich Schliemann und Minna Meincke, die Tragödie der Langgässer-Tochter Cordelia Edvardson oder die Karriere des Kinder- und Teenie-Stars Cornelia Froboess in den Zeiten des Wirtschaftswunders. Trotz klugem Vor- und Nachwort der Herausgeberin: Lehren lassen sich aus all dem kaum ziehen, weder zur Erziehungsgeschichte noch zum Dauerstreit zwischen Genetikern und Milieutheoretikern noch gar zum deutschen Nationalcharakter. Insgesamt eine bewegende, bisweilen anekdotisch-unterhaltsame Lektüre, empfehlenswert etwa neben der von K. Rutschky herausgegebenen "Deutschen Kinder-Chronik"
