Ähnlich en vogue ist zurzeit Bassam Tibis "Krieg der Zivilisationen". Der Autor des vorliegenden Buches nimmt sich kritisch ihrer Werke an und weist nach, dass beide zyklischen Geschichtsphilosophien anhängen und in direkter Nachfolgeschaft zB eines Oswald Spenglers stehen. Er entlarvt ihr Zivilisationsparadigma als Geschichtskonstrukt, dessen Hauptfunktion die Schaffung eines Feindbildes zur Definition des brüchig gewordenen Selbstbildes des "Westens" ist. In der Tradition der Aufklärung mythologisieren sie Begrifflichkeiten, um sie anschließend als Kampfbegriffe gegen das Fremde/Andere einzusetzen. Ihre Theorien sind wissenschaftlich nicht zu halten, sondern nur als ideologische Brandsätze zu verstehen.(MOD)
