Der Kunsthistoriker Karl Schwarz gehörte zu den interessantesten jüdischen Persönlichkeiten Berlins der zwanziger Jahre. Als Leiter der Kunstsammlung der Jüdischen Gemeinde zu Berlin setzte er sich für die Verbreitung zeitgenössischer jüdischer Kunst ein. 1933 eröffnete Schwarz das Berliner Jüdische Museum, die bedeutendste Sammlung moderner jüdischer Kunst in der Welt. Seine autobiographischen Aufzeichnungen verfasste er 1940-1952 in Tel Aviv. Hier schreibt er über Lesser Ury, Joseph Oppenheimer, Max Liebermann, Ludwig Meidner u. a.
