This book is the first review of unique and significant geological objects over the coast of Lake Baikal. Apart from review information on geological structure, mineralogy, tectonics and neotectonics, geomorphology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, the book adduces the history of exploration and its basic results. Special attention is given to key sections of early stages in the Earth's evolution, time of formation of the Lake basin and to some remarkable spots where the rarest minerals have been discovered, among them unique new minerals found nowhere else. 133 objects are described here, of which a few groups forming the most interesting areas, are marked out: Slyudyanka mining region, the Circum-Baikal railway, the source of the Angara river, the Olkhon Island and the territory around it, the Svyatoy Nos peninsula and the Ushkany Islands, and the Tunka-Mondy group of land basins. The book may be used as a guide by geologists, students, tourists, collectors of minerals, ecologists.
