Die Sammlung des Stuttgarter Ehepaares Wulf D. und Akka von Lucius bietet einen repräsentativen Zugang zum Medium des Künstlerbuches. In über 40 Jahren andauernder Sammeltätigkeit kam bei dem Verlegerehepaar eine beträchtliche Anzahl an bedeutenden Künstlerbüchern zusammen. Die Ausstellung präsentiert das Künstlerbuch in seiner vielseitigen Verwandlungskraft als exotisches Kunstmedium, bei dem die Beiträge bildender Künstler weit über das Illustrative hinausgehen. Der entstehende Dialog zwischen Grafik, Text, Typografie, Papierart und Objekthaftigkeit ist als Wechselspiel für das Künstlerbuch charakteristisch. Dabei fallen nicht selten Konzeption und Realisation, Idee und Ausführung zusammen. Die Ausstellung zeigt eine exemplarische Auswahl aus der umfangreichen Privatsammlung Lucius und ermöglicht so einen umfassenden Einblick in die reichhaltige Bandbreite des Mediums im Zeitraum von 1945 bis heute: zu sehen sind Vertreter der École de Paris, der Neuen Figuration, der Abstraktion und der amerikanischen Pop Art, darunter Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Horst Antes, Walter Stöhrer, Jim Dine, Andy Warhol u.v.m.
