"The Llanthony Stories is a fragmentary collection of Latin preaching tales or exempla, pious (and occasionally ribald) narrations about royal and noble figures, academic masters, and various ecclesiastical personalities. It was compiled at the beginning of the thirteenth century by an unknown writer of Anglo-Norman or Anglo-Welsh origin, and appears to be deeply rooted in the culture and history of Gloucester and the West Midlands. The work survives in a single manuscript witness, and is here translated into English for the first time. An extended historical introduction, a transcription of the Latin text, extensive notes, and a comprehensive bibliography round out the volume."--
