    Note: Biographical note: Christian Tschumi is principal and project manager at Metron Landschaft AG, Brugg, Switzerland and teaches at the Institute of Landscape Architecture at ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology)Zurich, Switzerland. He grew up in Zurich and became a licensed landscape gardener in 1988. Tschumi received his first degree in landscape architecture from the Hochschule Rapperswil in 1993. After starting his own landscape architecture practice in 1995, he was also invited as a visiting lecturer to the Fachhochschule Anhalt in Bernburg, Germany. In 1997 he pursued a master s degree in landscape architecture at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, and later worked at Peter Walker and Partners in Berkeley. In April 2000 he moved to Kyoto, Japan, and started research on the modernization of the Japanese garden.
