Note:
Ideology - that is so passé: This widely prevalent underestimation of ideology is unjustified. The cognitive theory of ideology presented in this volume starts out by examining the current usage of the term, and looks at ideologies in three dimensions: in terms of epistemology, as forms of needs-based thinking; in terms of worldviews, as fundamental assumptions about the nature of the world and value systems; and in terms of political platforms, as driving sociopolitical concepts. In every case, the challenge is to find a way to confront basic elements of the condition humaine with the principles of empirical-rational thought. Human beings are susceptible to needs-based thinking - but they also have the capacity to do something to resist it. Peter Tepe, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf
