Jahrhundert entstandene Oeuvre ist in einer Prachthandschrift in Torun überliefert. Dem Ausgabentext dieses umfangreichsten Werkes aller bislang bekannten Übersetzungen der Catena aurea folgt in der vorliegenden Edition der Abdruck eines Fragments aus dem ausgehenden 15. Jahrhundert, das eine bairische Übersetzung dieses Markuskommentars enthält.

Content: The second volume of the Catena aurea deutsch presents the East Middle German translation of the Catena aurea super Marcum by Thomas Aquinas. This oeuvre, created in the 14th century, is transmitted in a magnificent manuscript in Torun. This edition contains the most comprehensive compilation of all translations of the Catena aurea known to date. These texts are followed by the copy of a fragment from the close of the 15th century, containing a Bavarian translation of this commentary on St. Mark's Gospel.

Content: Die Reihe Catena aurea deutsch präsentiert in ihrem zweiten Band die ostmitteldeutsche Übersetzung der Catena aurea super Marcum des Thomas von Aquin. Das Markusevangelium wird durch aneinandergereihte Zitate aus Werken griechischer und lateinischer Kirchenväter sowie späterer Kirchenschriftsteller ausführlich kommentiert. Behauptungen von Ketzern werden reflektiert und widerlegt. Informationen der anderen Evangelien werden auf ihre Übereinstimmung mit Äußerungen von Markus geprüft. Das in einer Prachthandschrift in Toru? überlieferte Oeuvre ist das umfangreichste Werk aller bislang bekannten Übersetzungen der Catena aurea. Dieser Kommentar des Markusevangeliums ist fast vollständig. Ein nachvollziehbares Gesamtbild wird in der vorliegenden Edition durch die Rekonstruktion fehlender Textstücke gewährt. Verweise im Apparat der Textausgabe kennzeichnen gravierdende Abweichungen von der lateinischen Catena. Das inzwischen entdeckte Fragment einer bairischen Übersetzung des Markuskommentars aus dem ausgehenden 15. Jahrhundert ist ebenfalls in der vorliegenden Edition abgedruckt.
