Inhalt: Gibt es einen grundsätzlichen Unterschied zwischen praktischem und theoretischem Wissen? Die auf Gilbert Ryle zurückgehende These, dass Wissen-wie eine eigenständige Wissensform darstellt, die sich in praktischen Fähigkeiten manifestiert und nicht auf Wissen-dass (d.h. propositionales Wissen) reduziert werden kann, wird in der gegenwärtigen Philosophie kontrovers diskutiert. Im Mittelpunkt dieser Debatte steht die Frage nach den Zusammenhängen von Wissen, Denken und Handeln, die unterschiedliche Themengebiete der Erkenntnistheorie, der Philosophie des Geistes und der Neuro- und Kognitionswissenschaften berührt. In diesem Buch wird zum einen dafür argumentiert, dass in Bezug auf die Frage nach praktischem Wissen einige grundlegende Argumentationsebenen zu unterscheiden sind, die in der gegenwärtigen Debatte oftmals vermischt werden. Zum anderen wird eine philosophische Analyse praktischen Wissens vorgestellt, die dieses als eigenständige Wissensform auffasst und systematische Bezüge zu theoretischem Wissen aufzeigt.

Inhalt: Is there a fundamental difference between practical and theoretical knowledge? The thesis, going back to Gilbert Ryle, that "knowing-how" is an independent form of knowledge manifesting itself in practical abilities that cannot be reduced to "knowing-that" (propositional knowledge) is a heated topic of debate in contemporary philosophy. This book presents an analysis of practical knowledge understood as an independent form of knowledge with systematic connections to knowledge, thought, and action.

Inhalt: Diese Abhandlung verteidigt gegen die heute vorherrschenden realistischen Interpretationen des kantischen transzendentalen Idealismus eine anti-realistische Zwei-Welten-Interpretation. Durch konkrete Textanalysen wird gezeigt, dass die realistische Interpretation an der Antinomienlehre und dem vierten Paralogismus (A) scheitern muss, während die anti-realistische Interpretation erlaubt, die Kritik der reinen Vernunft im Ganzen zu einer kohärenten Sinneinheit zu strukturieren. Anschließend wird der konkrete Gehalt von Kants anti-realistischer Ontologie der raumzeitlichen Wirklichkeit erhellt. Dafür entwickelt der Verfasser eine intuitionistische Wahrheitskonzeption (ein empirisches Gegenstück der Wahrheitskonzeption des mathematischen Intuitionismus), kombiniert mit der Superassertibilität à la Crispin Wright. Die von Michael Dummett bereit gestellte Begrifflichkeit "Realismus/Anti-Realismus‟ erweist sich als fruchtbar nicht nur für die Analyse der kantischen Position selbst, sondern auch für ein klares Verständnis der mannigfaltigen Interpretationsansätze des transzendentalen Idealismus.

Inhalt: This work defends an anti-realist two-world interpretation of Kant's transcendental idealism against prevailing realist views. Kant's anti-realism is made more precise using concepts developed Michael Dummett and Crispin Wright. These concepts are fruitful not only for the analysis of Kant's own position but also for a clear understanding of differing interpretations of transcendental idealism.

Inhalt: Die Debatte um die Frage nach dem Lebenswissen hat weiter an Fahrt aufgenommen, seitdem der Begriff im Jahr 2007 von Ottmar Ette in die kulturwissenschaftliche Diskussion eingeführt wurde. Die im vorliegenden Band versammelten Beiträge versuchen, diese Diskussion entscheidend voranzutreiben und neue Horizonte aktuellen wie künftigen literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Denkens und Handelns aufzuzeigen. Der Band geht auf ein internationales Symposium zurück, das im Juli 2010 am Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies stattfand. Der Stil wissenschaftlicher Konvivenz, der bei diesem Symposium geschaffen wurde, kommt in allen hier versammelten Texten zum Ausdruck. Europäische wie außereuropäische, philologische wie philosophische, fachgeschichtliche wie medienhistorische, erzähltheoretische wie literarästhetische, transkulturelle wie transdisziplinäre Ansätze messen die Dimensionen eines Forschungsgebietes aus, dessen Wissensformen und Wissensnormen es selbst noch näher zu bestimmen gilt. Dieser Herausforderung ist der Band verpflichtet.

Inhalt: The purpose of the essays collected in this volume is to advance the discussion about "life knowledge" (Lebenswissen) and to point the way toward new horizons for current and future thinking and action in literary and cultural studies. This broad research field encompasses a wide range of elements: European, non-European, philological, and philosophical approaches; perspectives native to media history, narrative theory, and the aesthetics of literature; as well as transcultural and transdisciplinary methods. Clearly, "life knowledge" is a field of research whose forms and norms of knowledge remain to be more precisely elucidated.

Through the 20th century, philosophies, art movements and political ideologies have oscillated between euphoria and condemnation, affirmation and an ignoring silence. Incorrect and abusive readings in fascist and Stalinist circles perverted his ideas and utopias. Inhalt: Kants Kritik der transzendenten Metaphysik in der transzendentalen Dialektik der Kritik der reinen Vernunft war durchschlagend und findet auch in der Philosophie der Gegenwart breite Zustimmung. Weniger Zustimmung und Verständnis findet die systematische Konzeption der transzendentalen Dialektik, die Lehre vom Bezug der Vernunft auf das Unbedingte als notwendigem, unvermeidlichem Schein. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht diese Konzeption. Sie stellt die in der Forschung weitgehend ungeklärten Fragen (a) nach der Notwendigkeit des Scheins und dem logischen Status der Schlüsse der Vernunft auf das Unbedingte, insbesondere nach der logischen Struktur der Antinomien, (b) nach dem Zusammenhang zwischen den Lehrstücken der Dialektik (von den Ideen der Vernunft als Begriffen vom Unbedingten, von den dialektischen Schlüssen, vom angemessenen Gebrauch der Ideen), (c) nach dem systematischen Verhältnis von Analytik und Dialektik als den beiden Teilen der transzendentalen Logik und nach der Funktion der Dialektik im architektonischen Zusammenhang der Kritik. Es ist die These der Studie, dass die Dialektik die Grundlage der kritischen Philosophie darstellt und dass ihre negative und ihre positive Lehre von der Vernunft unzertrennlich zusammenhängen.

Inhalt: The transcendental dialectic, which is the destructive part of the Critique of Pure Reason that critizises traditional metaphysics, is typically treated in systematic perspective as a corollary to the doctrinaire parts. The study undertaken in this book focuses on the systematic conception of the dialectic: the teaching that reason's reference to the unconditioned is a necessary illusion. The book argues that the dialectic is the foundation of critical philosophy and that its negative and positive teachings concerning reason are inextricably interlinked.

Inhalt: The thoroughly contemporary question of the relationship between emotion and reason was debated with such complexity by the philosophers of the 17th century that their concepts remain a source of inspiration for today's research about the emotionality of the mind. The analyses of the works of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, and many other thinkers collected in this volume offer new insights into the diversity and significance of philosophical reflections about emotions during the early modern era. A focus is placed on affective components in learning processes and the boundaries between emotions and reason.

Inhalt: The unconscious raises relevant problems in the theory of knowledge as regards non-conceptual contents and obscure representations. In the philosophy of mind, it bears on the topic of the unity of consciousness and the notion of the transcendental Self. It is a key-topic of logic with respect to the distinction between determinate-indeterminate judgments and prejudices, and in aesthetics it appears in connection with the problems of reflective judgments and of the genius. Inhalt: Recent philosophy and history of science has seen a surge of interest in the role of concepts in scientific research. Scholars working in this new field focus on scientific concepts, rather than theories, as units of analysis and on the ways in which concepts are formed and used rather than on what they represent. They analyze what has traditionally been called the context of discovery, rather than (or in addition to) the context of justification. And they examine the dynamics of research rather than the status of the finished research results. This volume provides detailed case studies and general analyses to address questions raised by these points, such as:- Can concepts be clearly distinguished from the sets of beliefs we have about their referents?- What - if any - sense can be made of the separation between concepts and theories?- Can we distinguish between empirical and theoretical concepts?- Are there interesting similarities and differences between the role of concepts in the empirical sciences and in mathematics?- What underlying notion of investigative practice could be drawn on to explicate the role of concept in such practice? - From a philosophical point of view, is the distinction between discovery and justification a helpful frame of reference for inquiring into the dynamics of research?- From a historiographical point of view, does a focus on concepts face the danger of falling back into an old-fashioned history of ideas?

Inhalt: The controversy over Jacques Derrida's legacy is one of the most effective engines driving the contemporary debate, far beyond the bounds of philosophy.
