Content: This study shows for the first time that it is possible to describe the connections between morality and happiness in Immanuel Kant's philosophy in structural terms. Ultimately, Kant's ethical philosophy teaches that goodness is a never-ending task in a conscious life, a life that remains aware of its own proclivities, engages with them wisely, and regards morality as the final reference point.

Content: Die vorliegende Studie entwickelt ein neues Bild der kantischen Ethik durch die Herausarbeitung der unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der wichtigsten Textstücke. Ausgehend von Kants Konzeptionen der transzendentalen Freiheit in der Kritik der reinen Vernunft wird Kants fundamentale Unterscheidung von Moral und Glück im ersten Hauptstück in der Kritik der praktischen Vernunft nachgezeichnet. Doch bereits im darauf folgenden zweiten Hauptstück der Kritik der praktischen Vernunft entwirft Kant mit den Kategorien der Freiheit die systematische Vermittlungsstelle von Moral und Glück im Menschen. Dadurch kann auch entgegen einer überwiegend kritischen Rezeption die folgende Lehre vom höchsten Gut in der Dialektik plausibel in den Argumentationsgang eingebunden werden. Aber erst durch die eigentümliche Perspektivenverschiebung in den Metaphysischen Anfangsgründen der Tugendlehre hin zum Menschen als vernünftigem Naturwesen gelingt schließlich die inhaltliche Vermittlung von Moral und Glück im System der Tugenden. Die Vermittlung von Moral und Glück lässt sich im kantischen Theorierahmen strukturell beschreiben, bleibt aber letztlich die nicht endende Aufgabe eines bewussten Lebens, das um seine Neigungen weiß, klug mit diesen umgeht und die Moral als letzten Orientierungspunkt versteht.
