"Das Kind von Noah", ... und zuletzt "Milarepa"... folgt überraschend eine weitere kleine, sehr angenehm zu lesende Geschichte, die für den Leser eine einfache philosophische Botschaft und Lebensweisheit bereithält. Diesmal widmet sich der Autor dem Zen-Buddhismus und dem hohen Ziel der inneren Erkenntnis. Der 15-jährige Jun ist von zu Hause abgehauen und schlägt sich in Tokio als Straßenverkäufer durch. Er kann die ganze Welt nicht leiden - am wenigsten sich selbst - und begegnet seinen Mitmenschen mit tiefer Verachtung. Den alten Shomintso, der ihm jeden Tag prophezeit, dass er bald ein großer und starker Sumoringer sein werde, hält er für verrückt. Der schmächtige Jun reagiert ungehalten auf die Einladung, ein Sumoringen zu besuchen. Doch als er sich nach langem Hin und Her unter die Fittiche des alten weisen Mannes begibt, ist dies die entscheidende Wende in seinem bis dahin verkorksten Leben.
