1867 sah Samuel L. Clemens (später berühmt als Mark Twain) zum 1. Mal ein Bild von Olivia Langdon und verliebte sich unsterblich in sie. 1870 heiratete das ungleiche Paar, der Haudegen und die Tochter aus vornehmem Haus, allen Widrigkeiten zum Trotz und führte 34 Jahre lang, bis zu "Livys" Tod, eine überaus glückliche Ehe. Ca. 1.800 sprachlich brillante Briefe voller Witz, Freude und Romantik, aber auch Trauer und Leid, schrieb Twain "Livy", die nun anlässlich seines 175. Geburtstags und 100. Todestags erstmals in deutscher Sprache publiziert und (lt. Verlag) "zu einem hinreißenden Porträt des großen amerikanischen Erzählers zusammengestellt" wurden. Der Band ist hervorragend kommentiert von A. Pechmann (hier zuletzt: "Die Bibliothek der verlorenen Bücher", ID 5/08), die einzelnen (Lebens-)Abschnitte (in chronologischer Reihenfolge) beginnen jeweils mit Erklärungen des Herausgebers. Mit Nachwort, Chronik, Literaturverzeichnis, Anmerkungen, Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos, Leineneinband mit Banderole. Ebenso wie Twains Reisebericht "Bummel durch Deutschland" (BA 5/10) sollte der Titel in keiner Bibliothek fehlen. (1)
