Maler der Elemente" (in dieser Nr.) verfasste, ist Professorin für Kunstgeschichte an der Universität Hamburg. Kenntnisreich gibt sie einen fundierten und allgemein verständlichen Überblick über Leben und Werk des englischen Landschaftsmalers, der als Wegbereiter der modernen Malerei gilt. Die Themen umfassen Turners zunehmend freier werdende Arbeitsweise, seine Vielzahl an Reisen, bei denen er sich intensiv mit der Veränderung seiner Umwelt auseinandersetzte, und seine Beschäftigung mit den Elementen und historischen Begebenheiten. Eingehend analysiert die Autorin hierzu die wichtigsten Werke.
