Der Journalist (FAS) hat bereits eine Zwischenbilanz der Regierungsjahre Merkels publiziert (ID-A 32/13). Eine "Biografie" nun kurz vor dem Ende ihrer Kanzlerschaft erscheint ambitioniert, weil viele amtliche Dokumente noch unveröffentlicht sind und Personen der Zeitgeschichte kaum vertiefend befragt werden konnten. Dementsprechend besticht die Darstellung durch ihre Beschreibung der Kindheit, Jugend und wissenschaftlichen Karriere Merkels. Hier wird klar, dass Merkels Pragmatismus und ihre Zurückhaltung hinsichtlich großer Reformen nicht zuletzt durch ihren Vater geprägt wurden, der sich als hoher Funktionär der Evangelischen Kirche in der DDR geschickt mit den Verhältnissen arrangiert hatte. Bollmann zeigt, wie Merkel als Politikerin ihren Intellekt, gepaart mit Nervenstärke und Beharrungsvermögen, in vielen Krisen (Euro, Banken, Flüchtlinge, Corona u.a.) erfolgreich nutzte. - Beeindruckende Doku, jedoch ohne historische Einordnung oder Bewertung. Es überwiegt die journalistische Perspektive, die zudem den fehlenden Gestaltungswillen Merkels etwa bei Digitalisierung oder Klimawandel ausspart. Rezension: Michael Reisser
