In der Frühen Neuzeit entfalteten sich die wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen Europas mit der übrigen Welt durch den globalen Handelsaustausch. Dieser Band untersucht die überregionalen Warenbewegungen, die von Hamburg vermittelt wurden.Der Aufstieg Hamburgs zum führenden Warenumschlagplatz beruht auf dem wirtschaftlichen Wachstum Westeuropas und seiner Expansion nach Übersee. Im Zuge dieser Entwicklung dehnte sich der Warenexport geographisch, mengenmäßig und auch hinsichtlich der Vielfältigkeit aus. Die vorliegende Untersuchung fokussiert den Ostsee- und Mitteleuropahandel, der im engen Zusammenhang mit dieser Expansion stand. Auf der Basis bislang nicht ausgewerteter Quellen gibt sie ein umfassendes Bild dieser Handelsbranche vom 17. bis zum Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts und erschließt somit ein neues Feld der wirtschaftshistorischen Forschung.
