Roman, den die Autorin nach Tatsachen schrieb, dieses Mal die Lebensgeschichte der Gerti Bruns. Nach schlimmer Kindheit in einem Schwarzwalddorf in der Nachkriegszeit kommt sie zu Leuten in der Stadt, arbeitet ohne Entlohnung, wird ausgenutzt und gelangt schließlich zur gut situierten Familie Wolf, deren Sohn Leo sie heiratet. Das Leben verläuft in Wohlstand, bis Leo sich großen Reichtum in Südwestafrika erhofft. Er zwingt sie, ihm mit beiden Söhnen zu folgen. Dort beginnt für Gerti in ihrer Ehe die Hölle. Leo hat inzwischen eine 2. Familie, sie nicht einmal mehr einen Pass. Sie versucht, mit ihren Söhnen nach Deutschland zu fliehen. Wie sie das schafft und sich ein neues Leben aufbaut, das lässt die Autorin Gerti selbst in einfacher Sprache, aber bewegend und anrührend erzählen. Die Hauptperson ist authentisch, Nebenpersonen und Szenen zum Teil frei erfunden. Als leicht lesbarer Tatsachenroman überall empfohlen.

Mit 13 flieht Gerti Bruns aus ihrem Elternhaus. Schließlich gerät sie in die Arme des gut aussehenden Leo Wolf, der ihr ein Leben in Sicherheit und Wohlstand bietet. Erst als er sie nach Südwestafrika lockt, wo er längst eine Zweitfamilie hat, zeigt er sein wahres Gesicht: Er will die Söhne und sie steht mittellos und ohne Papiere da.
