Sein Vater, dessen Leben nicht immer ganz so verlaufen ist wie gedacht, sieht in der Stelle als Platzwart seine große Chance auf eine bessere Zukunft. Schon bei ihrer Ankunft auf dem Platz weiß Simons Mutter: "Seit diesem Tag hätten wir wissen müssen, dass die Geschichte nicht gut ausgeht." Damit ist der gesamte Roman bereits auf der 1. Seite charakterisiert. Der Platz wird bevölkert von Menschen, die alle auf ihre Weise am Rande der Gesellschaft gelandet sind. Simon, aus dessen Sicht erzählt wird, wirkt wie ein Schlafwandler, der durch seine Umwelt streift, dies und das aufnimmt, ohne jedoch darauf zu reagieren. Emotionslos und punktgenau versteht es Widmann, die Realität einzufangen und erlebbar zu machen. Eine einmalige, ergreifende und fantastisch erzählte Geschichte, für die Widmann mit dem Robert-Gernhardt-Preis 2010 ausgezeichnet wurde. Für alle Bibliotheken ohne Einschränkung zu empfehlen!
