Eingeführte Reihe. Wenn sich Peter Handke zu seinem 65. Geburtstag (06.12.2007) eine einfühlsame und respektvolle Würdigung seines literarischen Werkes gewünscht hat, so hat ihm der Salzburger Literaturwissenschaftler Hans Höller mit diesem Band diesen Wunsch sicherlich erfüllt. Ähnlich wie in seiner "Ingeborg Bachmann"-Monographie (BA 8/99) führt er behutsam und sachkundig über prägende Kindheits- und Jugenderfahrungen an das literarische Werk heran, lässt aber weit stärker noch als dort kritische Distanz vermissen und blendet die (späteren) persönlichen Lebenserfahrungen des Autors, z.B. seine Liebesbeziehungen und die Gründe ihres Scheiterns, bewusst aus. So ist dies denn weniger eine Biografie geworden als ein Essay über die Grundintentionen und die großen Themen des literarischen Schaffens Handkes, gut lesbar, immer plausibel, aber immer auch ohne jede kritische Distanz.
